About Startup Europe
Started in 2011, Startup Europe has become a reckoned reference in the European startup related field. Our mission is to build a Startup Continent by increasing the connectedness among all players of the European startup ecosystems.
The initiative is primarily focused on two main pillars that create a visible, interconnected, dedicated space where startups can obtain advice, partners and grow locally or internationally:
- access to funding opportunities for startup ecosystem builders who design projects to improve startups’ capabilities to scale up, raise capital or enter new markets;
- support of cross-border stakeholder networks and grassroot initiatives
As a result, 715 Startups have been directly supported raising over 200 Million Euro in capital from the market; 900 pitching sessions with investors, over 500 cross-border meetings and networking events, 350 matchmaking sessions between startups, investors and corporates have been organised; Startup Europe Week organised 411 events during the first week of February 2017 across the 28 Member States, and Startup Europe Awards followed the Eurovision model to get national champions in 18 Member States; 110 activities to internationalise startups and more than 180 startups participated in the activities in India, Africa and Silicon Valley. Furthermore, the one-stop-shop for Startups (www.startupeuropeclub.eu) provides information and support notably for startups to grow internationally.
What are Startup Europe Ambassadors?
Throughout the years, Startup Europe (SE) has been a collective effort of hundreds of stakeholders, movers and doers in tech and startup field. The impact of this initiative could not have been possible without the immense support provided by this community.
The community that is currently taking part in the growth of Startup Europe as a bottom-up movement have been invited to be Startup Europe Ambassadors.
Startup Europe Ambassadors represent a group of key influencers in the European startup ecosystems who actively support Startup Europe activities.
With this movement we will democratise the access to Startup Europe, by making it open to our partners with the goal of offering them the power of improving the initiative.
Startup Europe Ambassadors are organisations that have been selected through the evaluation of proposals of European Commission’s Horizon 2020 ICT 32 call, as well as partners of Pilot project: Start This Up! and OpenMaker.
What do ambassadors do?
— Actively contribute to the visibility of Startup Europe by acting as a key information point in their countries about Startup Europe activities or by connecting the Startup Europe team with relevant stakeholders from their local startup field;
— Gather feedback and provide innovative insight to the European Commission’s Startup Europe team with the objective of improving the activities of this initiative.
